Former defence ministers Ivan Simko, Martin Fedor, Lubomir Galko approve of Slovakia's military aid for Ukraine, whereas Peter Gajdos maintains that Slovakia is only pouring fuel into the fire by helping its neighbour, TASR learnt on Monday. "The basic premise is that NATO first and foremost protects the territories of its member states. On the other hand, we're all aware that the war in Ukraine is also about us. It's in our fundamental interest to see Ukraine withstand this conflict," thinks Simko. Fedor would continue the military aid. "The future security of the Slovak Republic is being decided today in Ukraine. The moment we become witnesses of one state succumbing to aggression by another state, it could start a domino effect and impact all of us," he warned. Galko, who still works for the Defence Ministry as the head of Aircraft Repair Company Trencin, perceives Slovakia as a role model in the aid for Ukraine and hopes that it will continue. According to Gajdos, it's necessary to raise a question as to whether organisations such as the UN, NATO or EU did their utmost to prevent the war in Ukraine. As for Slovakia's military aid to its neighbour, Gajdos averred that adding fuel to the fire is "undignified". "It is also our grenades, our ammunition, weapons and heavy artillery that has been killing people there, whether on one or the other side of the conflict," he claimed.
