President Zuzana Caputova has signed the amendment to the Constitution concerning the shortening of electoral terms that was approved by Parliament on Wednesday. In line with the amendment, Parliament will be able to shorten the electoral term via a resolution requiring the votes of 90 MPs. MPs dealt with the constitutional amendment after Parliament expressed no-confidence in Eduard Heger's (OLANO) Government at the end of last year. Representatives of the former coalition of four parties have already agreed that an early general election will take place on September 30. According to a ruling of the Constitutional Court, it was necessary to amend the Constitution in order to shorten the electoral term so that such a step would comply with the Constitution.
