Local governments will turn off public lighting for half an hour on the evening of January 30 in order to express their dissatisfaction with the fact that the government isn't addressing their issues, representatives of towns agreed on this on Tuesday at an online meeting of the Chamber of Towns of the Slovak Towns and Villages Association (ZMOS), TASR was told by ZMOS Chamber of Towns head and ZMOS vice-chairman Jozef Bozik.
"It's a common goal for us to draw attention of the competent authorities, the Slovak government, that it's necessary to finally start addressing the problems of local governments. They're facing the fact that this government has taken €600 million from them, but after all the promises about compensation for the effects of the huge electricity and gas price hikes, nothing is happening yet," said Bozik, adding that nothing is happening even with compensating the increase in prices for biomass and wood chips.
According to him, local governments see no other way out than to start coercive actions, so that the competent finally stop dealing with themselves and start addressing the problems of people, and thus of local authorities, since they provide 70 percent of the activities necessary for life from birth to death for the people.
