2022 fifth warmest year in Slovakia since 1931

Last year was the fifth warmest year in Slovakia since 1931, while at the same time it was the fifth driest year in terms of the volume of precipitation since 1881, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute has reported on its website. According to the institute, the average spatial air temperature in Slovakia in 2022 stood at 9.5 degrees Celsius. Higher results were measured only in 2014, 2018, 2019 and 2015, the institute noted, pointing to the fact that averages exceeding 9 degrees have been observed almost exclusively after 2000. As for precipitation in the country in 2022, the institute remarked that the final precipitation balance would be even more adverse if it hadn't been for periods of heavy rainfall in September and some days in December.
