1 in 10 Slovaks earned less than €840 gross per Month in 2022

The worst-paid 10% of men and women in Slovakia received gross monthly salaries of less than €840 last year, according to an analysis carried out by the Platy.sk website, which belongs to jobs agency Profesia. Conversely, the best-paid 10 percent earned gross salaries higher than €2,550 per month. The highest salaries last year were reported in Bratislava region, while people earned the least in Prešov region. The best-paid 10 percent of people in Prešov region earned more than €1,770 per month, while the figure for Bratislava region was €3,000, some 70 percent higher.

More pronounced regional differences were found among employees with a university education. Half of people with university education in Bratislava region had gross basic salaries lower than €1,890 per month, while the figure in Prešov region was €1,200. In Banská Bystrica region it was €1,290.

Concerning the pay of people who have a secondary school education without a school-leaving exam, regional differences were somewhat lower. Such people in Prešov region received an average basic monthly salary amounting to €1,000, while in Bratislava region they earned €1,380. However, the data showed that if people have low-qualified jobs in their region, moving for the same job in a more developed region might not bring them much higher salaries.

The country-wide median salary amounted to €1,350 last year. When median salaries in individual regions were compared, there was a significant gap between Bratislava and the rest of Slovakia. Half of employees in Bratislava and its surroundings received gross monthly salaries of almost €1,650. The highest median salaries after Bratislava were posted in Košice, Trnava and Žilina regions.
