No of passengers at Bratislava Airport almost tripled in 2022

M.R. Štefánik Airport in Bratislava processed more than 1.4 million travellers in 2022, an almost threefold increase when compared to the previous year, airport spokeswoman Veronika Hauswaldová has reported.

According to general manager Dušan Keketi, the beginning of the year was difficult for the airport, as the conflict in Ukraine came immediately on the heels of the pandemic. "All flights to and from Ukraine as well as to the Russian Federation were cancelled. Ukraine was among the top connections until then, and this disruption took away around 200,000 passengers," explained Keketi. The summer brought extraordinary interest in travel and a leap in passenger numbers, however.

In 2022, the airport handled more than one million passengers on scheduled services, which is more than double the figure for 2021. As for non-scheduled traffic, Bratislava airport handled 405,453 passengers, an increase of 150 percent when compared to 2021. In December, a total of 71,635 passengers were handled in both arrivals and departures.

The busiest month of the year at the airport was July, when the airport processed 256,447 passengers both entering and leaving the country. The busiest day was July 23, when there was a total of 9,348 passengers. The airport dealt with 24,283 take-offs and landings in 2022, with 1,182 flights in December alone.
