On Wednesday (January 18), soldiers will commemorate their comrades who were killed in the An-24 plane crash in 2006 by marching to the scene of the tragedy - Borso hill above the Hungarian village of Hejce, Slovak armed forces spokesman Stefan Zemanovic told TASR on Tuesday.
"The march of honour will start at 9 a.m. in the village of Hejce, and, at the top of Borso hill, soldiers will light candles in silent commemoration of 42 comrades who were killed when returning from the KFOR mission on January 19, 2006," said Zemanovic. The event will be concluded in the afternoon with a Holy Mass down in the village, which will be led by Ordinary of the Armed Forces Frantisek Rabek.
The plane crash near the Hungarian village of Hejce was the biggest air tragedy in the history of the independent Slovakia. Only one of the soldiers survived the accident, Martin Farkas, then a lieutenant - now a captain. (TASR)
