Survey: Almost quarter of Slovaks plan significant energy cuts

23.9% of Slovaks plan to significantly save and cut their energy consumption, a survey carried out for the Home Credit company revealed. Over 40% plan at least partial savings and almost 30% of respondents expect to have roughly the same energy consumption. At the same time, people monitor energy consumption in their households more than they did a year ago.

The year-on-year comparison showed that 45% of respondents monitor their consumption to a higher degree, while 50% said they monitor their energy consumption like they did a year ago. The survey further showed that 52% of Slovaks have a basic overview of how much electricity and gas they consume. Almost one in five Slovaks monitor their energy consumption in great detail. These are chiefly people aged between 30 and 44.

The issue of energy saving is also connected with the use of more energy-efficient household appliances. More than one third of people plan to replace their old appliances with new, energy-efficient ones. They most often intend to invest €400-600 in their purchase. Those planning to get energy-efficient appliances will most often finance their purchase from their own savings or salaries, while some people consider buying them on instalments or taking out a loan for this purpose. "If it is a long-lifetime item, a loan is one of the ways to finance its purchase. However, people should follow the basic rule here, namely that the repayment period should be shorter than the lifetime of the appliance in question," said Miroslav Zborovsky, the ombudsman of Home Credit clients.

According to the survey, 27% of respondents recently replaced their old appliances with new, energy-efficient ones, while an additional 35% are considering doing so.
