According to the Office for Health Care Supervision (ÚDZS), the approval of the regulation of the profit of health insurance companies is an important step towards better use of resources from health insurance for the benefit of the insured. It considers the adoption of the amendment on health insurance companies, of which regulation is a part, a "small miracle". The amendment was signed by President Zuzana Čaputová at the end of last year.
"Despite many political declarations since the health reform of the former Minister of Health Rudolf Zajac in 2004, no administrative restrictions were placed on the amount of profit, which tipped the balance between the provision of health care as a public service and the interests of private capital in favor of the shareholders of health insurance companies," stated the director of the office, Renáta Blahova. She reminded that according to the new rules, the health insurance company is obliged to use the difference to create or supplement the health quality fund in the event of a positive economic result that is higher than appropriate. "It will be used to finance, for example, the payment of special medicines, medical procedures or the implementation of preventive programs," she explained. (TASR)
