At its session on Wednesday, the interim Government approved an amendment to the Enlistment Act that would allow those who have not undergone voluntary military training to join the active reserves. At the same time, discharged professional soldiers who agreed to be included in the active reserves before being recruited would also reinforce the reserves. Such individuals would join the reserve ranks for a period of three years. Exceptions would be made for those soldiers who have reached the military rank of colonel and higher as well as those who have been dismissed for health reasons, a breach of service discipline or failure to achieve required results. By making the reserves accessible to people without military experience, the Defence Ministry aims to attract young people to supplement the reserves with their expertise. After signing the enlistment agreement, a candidate will undergo basic training followed by vocational training and courses. If approved by Parliament, the amendment should enter into force on May 1.
