Three Kings return to Bratislava

On the Feast of the Epiphany on 6th January, the Three Kings Procession will take place in Bratislava. The central theme of the procession is the journey of the Magi in search of the light that leads them to the child in the manger. "The wise men from far away, representing members of three generations and three races, will visit us on horseback and camel. They will be accompanied by drummers, bagpipers and carol singers," said Anna Hlavacova on behalf of the organisers. In the streets and squares of the Bratislava Old Town, a story that once took place in Jerusalem and its surroundings will be played out. The event will start in the courtyard of Bratislava Castle at 14.30. In many European capitals, a procession through the streets is organised on the feast of the Three Kings. In 2019, the first Three Kings Parade took place in Bratislava.

Most retail shops in Slovakia will be closed due to the Epiphany public holiday on Friday (January 6). The closure of retail outlets on public holidays was introduced by a Labour Code amendment effective as of June 2017. Slovakia now has 15.5 days when shops have to remain shut. On these days, employers cannot order or agree with their employees on work related to retail sales. There are some exceptions from this rule, however, such as petrol stations, pharmacies and outlets at airports, train and bus stations and hospitals.
