Slovakia in need of almost 20,000 cyber security professionals

Slovakia lacks some 20,000 employees to fill vacancies in the field of cyber security, Cyber Security Competence and Certification Center head Ivan Makatura said on Tuesday.
Experts in cyber security are needed in firms and institutions, as well as local government. The state also lacks cyber security professionals in the education and health sectors. The center has compiled statistics of demanded cyber-security jobs. For example, more than 12,000 such posts need to be staffed in basic service operators, 2,700 in medium-sized companies and over 2,000 in public administration.
Slovakia started to partly solve the deficit of cyber security experts by retraining or specialising professionals from similar fields. However, this is just a short-term solution, said Makatura, who sees a long-term solution in a significant increase in accredited university programmes in this area. (TASR)
