The Let's Stop Corruption foundation, Zastavme korupciu, has launched a website that documents the best-known corruption scandals in Slovakia with the aim of helping people find out what a certain case is about and what the state of criminal proceedings related to it is.
"Our goal was to summarise a high number of cases and help the public to orientate themselves in them based on publicly available information in the media and elsewhere," said Martin Suchy of the foundation. The authors set themselves the goal of documenting corruption cases since the founding of the Slovak Republic and will gradually add them to the site.
There are currently more than 50 cases on the kauzy.sk website, involving more than 100 people. It's possible to find information on how many cases public figures or influential persons have been involved in, how many charges have been pressed against them and in what cases they were lawfully convicted or, conversely, acquitted.
"Information on individual persons and the state of their criminal proceedings reflects exclusively the current state of these criminal proceedings as of the date of their publishing in this list and contains statements and information from witnesses or law-enforcement authorities. By publishing the list, the Let's Stop Corruption foundation isn't interfering in the right of people involved in individual cases to the presumption of innocence," added Suchy. (TASR)
