There will be an expert discussion on the new mechanism replacing the abolition of concessionaire fees. Their shortfall is to be replaced by a new "stable element of financing". In an interview for TASR, this was stated by temporarily appointed Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OĽANO). He does not see a problem in their cancellation and added that after the abolition of concession fees, public television must be protected from the influence of politicians. "We have to ensure a stable income, which will not be decided by politicians as they like," he concluded. According to Heger, it doesn't matter whether citizens pay RTVS concession fees or whether the source of financing will be taxes, since it is all public money. "The state will find a mechanism, whether it will be a percentage of the gross domestic product that will be designated annually to finance RTVS, or some other way," said Heger. He added that the new mechanism must be established by law so that politicians do not change it every year and thus prevent political influence on RTVS. According to Heger, the new financing mechanism should be approved by June 30, 2023 at the latest, since the concessionaire fees end in July 2023.
