UN Human Settlements Programme with Slovak deputy executive director

Incumbent Permanent Representative of the Slovak Republic to the UN in New York Michal Mlynar will operate as deputy executive director of the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in Nairobi. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced this on Wednesday. "Slovakia will thus gain another important post in the UN system. This is the most senior position in the leadership of one of the UN agencies, funds and programmes to be occupied by a Slovak," stated the Foreign Affairs Ministry. Mlynar will take up the post in April 2023. Head of Slovak diplomacy Rastislav Kacer welcomed Mlynar's appointment to the leadership of UN-Habitat, viewing it as significant recognition of the professional quality and experience of Slovak diplomatic representatives. In 2015-17, Mlynar served as director general of the international organization’s development cooperation and humanitarian aid section at the Foreign Affairs Ministry. Before that, he operated as Slovakia's ambassador to Kenya between 2012-15.
