The Interior Ministry has begun dismantling the tent village that was set up for illegal migrants crossing Slovakia in the town of Kuty in the Trnava region due to decreasing numbers of these people in the winter. The facility, consisting of 16 tents and the premises of a post office at the local train station, served as emergency accommodation for migrants.
Only nine people woke up in the tents on Tuesday morning. During the migration peak in October this year, the facility sheltered 160 individuals.
Illegal migrants will now have the option of staying in brick and mortar facilities of the migration office in Rohovce and Opatovska Nova Ves following registration with the foreign police. They can spend up to seven days in these shelters and apply for international protection, otherwise they'll have to leave when the week is up.
