One in three Slovaks plans to spend up to €300 on Christmas presents this year, while one in five would be willing to borrow money for the purpose, according to a survey conducted by Kariera.sk. The website's communications and PR manager Katarína Tešla said that Slovaks usually spend money on Christmas presents to buy electronics (42%), books (37%) and children's toys (35%). They also buy clothing, cosmetics, holidays, trips and holiday vouchers.
The biggest proportion of Slovaks (30%) intends to spend up to €300 on Christmas presents. However, there is a relatively large group of those who want to spend lower amounts. According to Kariera.sk, this proves that Slovaks are trying to save or do not have enough money for the Christmas holidays. As many as 21% of respondents plan to spend only up to €100, and 17% only up to €50. Meanwhile, 15% of Slovaks intend to spend up to €500 and 7% up to €1,000. The survey further showed that 2% of the respondents plan to spend up to €2,000, while almost 7% have no problem buying Christmas presents worth up to €5,000.
One in five Slovaks would need to borrow money to buy Christmas presents this year, with the highest proportion of them (30%) needing to borrow up to €300. "There's still an opportunity to make some extra money via part-time jobs rather than pointlessly run into debt before the Christmas holidays," stated Tesla, adding that there is increased demand for workers in distribution, transport, sales and customer services at the moment.
The survey was carried out on a sample of 6,100 respondents.
