Public broadcaster to get €23 million annually

A new framework contract with the state for 2023-2027 will bring at least €23 million annually to public-service broadcaster RTVS according to the wording of a contract discussed and acknowledged by the RTVS Council at its session on Thursday.
The state subsidy, one of RTVS's sources of income, is intended to support radio and television production, investment projects and the provision of foreign-language broadcasting. "The difference when compared to the previous contract is that the minimum amount of the subsidy is now €23 million, while it was €15 million in previous contracts," said RTVS officials.
They added that the new framework contract also introduces new obligations related to multi-modal access and ethnic-minority broadcasting. In addition, the contract obliges RTVS to use 10 percent of the total subsidy to produce regional television programmes and 20 percent to produce regional radio programmes. (TASR)
