Parliament in a vote on Thursday expressed no-confidence in Eduard Heger's (OLANO) Government.
78 of the 102 MPs present voted for the Government's fall, 20 were against, two refrained from voting and two didn't vote. OLANO MPs left the hall before the start of the vote.
Finance Minister Igor Matovic (OLANO) offered his resignation earlier on Thursday if the opposition SaS party would withdraw its support for the vote of no-confidence in the Government and back the 2023 state budget. According to the president's spokesperson Martin Strizinec, Igor Matovic originally went to the President's Office to hand in his resignation, but he had a change of heart at the very last moment and snatched the resignation from the hands of the Office's employee.
The no-confidence motion in the Government was initiated by SaS and co-signed by Independent MPs centred around Peter Pellegrini (Voice-SD). SaS leader Richard Sulik during the parliamentary debate said that he can imagine a meaningful reconstruction of the Government after its fall. SaS would support the new cabinet in such a case, but it wouldn't be part of it. He also spoke about the possibility of a snap election and a caretaker government.
