Cooperation between Slovakia and Sweden will further intensify following the signing of an agreement on the purchase of CV90 tracked armoured vehicles. Slovak Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad (OLaNO) and his Swedish counterpart Pal Jonson concurred at a joint news conference on Wednesday. "These tracked armoured combat vehicles are a fundamental prerequisite for Slovakia to be able to achieve its goal of building a heavy mechanised brigade," Nad said, adding this is the biggest-ever modernisation project to be carried out within the Slovak Army's ground forces. The intergovernmental agreement also addresses the issue of ammunition, training, spare parts, logistical support and infrastructure. Nad declared at least a 40-percent engagement of Slovakia's defence industry within the contract. Jonson highlighted the cooperation in the purchase of tracked vehicles and also spoke about the strategic partnership between the two countries. In addition to the bilateral cooperation, the talks also concerned support for Ukraine, where he appreciated Slovakia's position. He thanked Slovakia for its support for Sweden's NATO membership.
