The National Security Office recorded 131 cyber security incidents in health care in 2021, with varying motives. Some might have been attempts at personal data theft, information on health documentation, but there were also the so-called ransomware attacks with an aim to extort and make profit. According to Office’s spokesperson Peter Habara they are not at liberty to provide more detailed information. "An enormous quantity of quite sensitive personal data flows through health care's information systems, posing a tempting target for hackers. In addition, the shutdown of IT systems in health care would mean the endangerment of many patients' lives and the hackers are aware of this, expecting to be paid ransom money quickly and willingly," added Dovera health insurer cyber security expert Roman Varga.
