The number of people staying at hotels and guest houses in Slovakia went up by almost 60% year-on-year (y-o-y) to 449,000 in October, still one fifth (21.6%) lower than was the case before the pandemic, the Statistics Office reported. Guests spent over 1.1 million nights in accommodation facilities, with the average length of stay at 2.5 nights in October.
Hotels and guest houses in Slovakia were visited by 294,000 domestic guests, which is 44% more than in October 2021, but still one fifth fewer than in the pre-pandemic period (2019). Accommodation services were also used by 155,000 foreign visitors. Although this figure almost doubled from the same period of the previous year, it was still one quarter lower than the pre-pandemic level.
Between January and October of this year, meanwhile, 4.1 million people were accommodated in tourism facilities in Slovakia, one quarter fewer than in the pre-pandemic period (January-October 2019). Accommodation services were used by 1.4 million foreign guests, down by 37% from the 2.2 million seen in the same period of 2019. The number of domestic tourists amounted to 2.8 million and was 17% lower than in the first ten months of 2019. Guests spent 11 million nights in accommodation facilities in January-October of this year, compared to the 15.4 million nights reported in the same period of 2019.
