By approving €200 monthly bonuses per child, Slovakia has become a one-of-a-kind country in Europe and a leader in family support when taken in ratio to GDP and average wage, Finance Minister Igor Matovic declared at a press conference in Parliament on Tuesday. He referred to recently approved changes that will ratchet up child benefits to €60 and increase a tax bonus to €140. "No other country exists in the EU that gives more in its direct financial child support than Slovakia will, as of January 1 next year," said Matovic.
Earlier in the day, Parliament approved legislation to increase to €140 monthly the tax bonus for parents with dependent children under 18 for the next two years. The income shortages this will cause to municipalities and regions are supposed to be compensated with proceeds from the corporate income tax.
