Representatives of the parliamentary defence and security committees of the Visegrad Four countries at a meeting in Bratislava on Monday agreed on the need for cooperation in the field of defence and security. The committee members discussed the current security situation and the migration crisis as well as misinformation and hybrid threats. They translated their stances into a joint memorandum signed at Bratislava Castle. Chairman of the Slovak parliamentary defence and security committee Juraj Krupa sees the meeting as very constructive. "Not all of us agree on everything, we have different opinions, but what is important is that we discuss, exchange opinions and experience and look for opportunities where cooperation within the V4 is important and where we can coordinate with each other," he stated. Head of the Czech committee Pavel Fischer said that the different perspectives of individual countries were also reflected in the joint resolution. "What we discussed today, the effects of Russia's war against Ukraine, the state of illegal migration in our countries and the need for mutual cooperation have finally led us to realise that despite our different views, we are engaged in a common search for solutions." Polish committee head Jaroslaw Rusiecki pointed to the V4's efforts to continue cooperation, especially in the area of border protection and the digital sphere. Their Hungarian counterpart Lajos Kosa called cooperation within V4 a priority, pointing out that communication and joint representation of interests can add strength and weight to the V4 countries in global terms and in Europe. He added that the situation concerning migration isn't improving, however.
