Actress Mária Kráľovičová died at the age of 95

Slovak actress Mária Kráľovičová died on Monday, 5 December at the age of 95. The death of the actress was confirmed to TASR by the press secretary of the Slovak National Theatre (SND) Izabela Pažítková. Mária Kráľovičová portrayed hundreds of theatre, film, television and radio characters. She played the character of Ophelia, Julia, portrayed Anton Pavlovich Chekhov's heroine and also Marilyn Monroe. She was an actress of a wide genre diversity with the greatest number of essential characters of the domestic and world repertoire. The Slovak National Theatre recalled that she is one of the three holders of the title of National Artist, which was awarded to Slovak actresses by the top leaders of Czechoslovakia for 44 years since the time of President Beneš. She became the first Slovak television actress and the first reciter to present Slovak poetry in recitals on three continents. She participated in events such as the 1958 World Expo in Brussels and the 1967 Expo in Montreal. In 2002, the President of the Slovak Republic awarded her the state decoration of the Ľudovít Štúr Order of the First Class and ten years later she received the Medal of the President of the Slovak Republic. In 2006, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame as part of the award ceremony of the Personality of the Television Screen (OTO). In 1957, director Ján Roháč cast her together with Elo Romančík in the production Do videnia, Lucienne!, which actually started a series of legendary TV Mondays. Television gave Mária Kráľovičová many other acting opportunities. She has acted in films: Cid (1973), Buddenbrookovci (1974), Americká tragédia (1976), Louis Pasteur (1977), Višňový sad (1979) or Tiene v raji (1986).
