Parliament greenlighted doctor salary hikes at its session on Wednesday. A total of 138 lawmakers out of 139 present voted for the motion, whereas one abstained. The House also approved an amending proposal that changes the remuneration based on years of experience also for other health care professions, extending it from 20 to 30 years. The bill was drafted in reaction to demands raised by the Doctor Labour Union Association and approved during negotiations with representatives of the Government. The Health Ministry pointed out that the new legislation will not only make the doctors withdraw their mass resignations, but also prevent the brain drain in health care and revive the flagging interest in the study of medicine. President is due to sign the bill on Thursday.
