The most popular names for newborns in 2022 are Sofia and Jakub. TASR was informed about this by the press department of the Ministry of the Interior (MV) of the Slovak Republic based on statistics as of the end of November. "With the gap of three years, when the list of the most popular male names is repeatedly topped by the name Jakub, the popularity of female names is changing. In 2020, the female name Ema took the lead, in 2021 the female name Nina, and in 2022 the female name Sofia took the lead," commented the ministry. In the top ten popular female names for newborns, the first three ranks were occupied by the names Sofia, Eliška and Nina. Next comes Ema, Viktória, Natália, Nela, Sára, Mia and Olívia. The top twenty is completed by Diana, Hana, Anna, Tamara, Júlia, Laura, Emma, ​​Karolína, Michaela and Rebeka. Among male names, Jakub, Samuel and Adam dominated. Parents also chose the names Michal, Oliver, Filip, Tomáš, Martin, Matej and Richard for their sons. They are followed by Lukáš, Alex, Matúš, Šimon, Tobias, Ján, Peter, Dávid, Dominik and Patrik.
