Slovakia remembered the Velvet Revolution

On Thursday, Slovaks remembered 33 years since the Velvet Revolution, which ended the four decade long Soviet-led communist totalitarian regime in then Czechoslovakia. “If we lose our freedom, the only way to get it back will be at the price of tough sacrifices, which is why there's a need to maintain our memory of history so that we aren't divided by any iron curtain again,” stated Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová at the Gate of Freedom memorial at Bratislava’s borough Devín. Democracy is not perfect, but it grants us freedom, a crucial ingredient in the development of one's self as well as the whole country, Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger wrote on social media. Robert Fico head of opposition SMER-SD party and former PM, said that there is no democracy to celebrate in Slovakia.
