Premier Eduard Heger (OLaNO) told a news conference following his talks with representatives of the Medical Trade Union Association on Tuesday that he is ready to sign a memorandum with trade unions and wants doctors to withdraw their notices. "This government has been unambiguously working on improving the situation in the health-care sector. I wish we had more possibilities, more money and I wish we had a better starting position than the one we have. We're doing our best," stated the premier.
Union chief Peter Visolajsky following the talks said the association will do its utmost for an agreement to be reached as early as this week. In early October, the union announced that more than 2,100 doctors at 31 Slovak hospitals had tendered mass resignations over their discontent with the current conditions in the Slovak health-care system. It's announced a protest rally in connection to this for Thursday (November 17). (TASR)
