US Ambassador to Slovakia Gautam Rana on Monday thanked the City of Kosice for its support and aid for Ukrainian refugees. During his first visit to 'the capital of eastern Slovakia' since he took up office in August, Rana met with Kosice mayor Jaroslav Polacek, with whom he discussed the economy and developing partnerships, among other matters. "One of the goals of our embassy is to travel regularly to the east of Slovakia. We are looking for ways to deepen partnerships and cooperation with people all over Slovakia, not just in Bratislava," Rana told the media following the meeting. Claiming that the development of business and trade relations is among his priorities, Rana called Kosice "the Slovak Silicon Valley" with numerous technology companies and opportunities for expanding relations with American partners. Apart from holding talks with the mayor, Rana also met with local representatives of the business and non-governmental sector and visited U.S Steel Kosice, the largest employer in the region. At the same time, the ambassador praised the activities of the American Center in Kosice. "We provide opportunities to learn English, and at the same time there are a number of programs underway that help deepen understanding and cooperation between the USA and the people of Eastern Slovakia," he noted.
