Deputy Defence Minister Marian Majer took part in a memorial service on the occasion of Veterans' Day (November 11) in the Bratislava borough of Cunovo on Sunday. Together with the British Ambassador to Slovakia Nigel Baker, they paid honour to members of the British Royal Air Force who fought against Nazism and fell while fulfilling their duties in Slovakia. On October 5, 1944, a Wellington bomber of the 40th RAF squadron was tasked with dropping mines into the Danube in order to prevent enemy ships from sailing. However, it was shot down by a German minesweeper near Cunovo. None of the 5-person crew survived.
