Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová received the Freedom Award from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) in Frankfurt. "As a lawyer, she advocated for civil rights and environmental protection in Slovakia. As president, she is committed to peace and liberal democracy," the FNF wrote on its official website. Meanwhile, head of the FNF board Karl-Heinz Paque called Čaputová 's tenure as president an example for liberals across Europe.
Čaputová stressed the importance of freedom and liberal democracy at the ceremony, expressing her feelings of honour and humility. "It's impressive how freedom, such a simple idea, has been able to be such a boost and empowerment in our history," she said.
