President: Referendum Date on January 21, 2023 Earliest Possible

The date for the referendum on the possibility of shortening the electoral term, January 21, 2023, was recommended by the Interior Ministry's department of elections, referendums and political parties as the earliest one possible, President Zuzana Čaputová posted on a social network in response to criticism from some MPs. "The latest date for the referendum ... according to constitutional deadlines, was February 12. The only other dates that could be considered for holding the referendum were January 28, February 4 and February 11. I'm curious about a discussion on what would be better about these dates - probably not the weather," wrote the head of state, adding that the dates are based on the deadlines needed for voting from abroad and also on the deadlines for preparing for the referendum.

Initiated by Smer-SD along with other opposition parties, the referendum was originally supposed to contain two questions. The second one, which concerned the instant resignation of the incumbent Government, was deemed unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court, however, and so won't be included.
