A 40-year-old, 12-metre-tall spruce donated by residents of the borough of Karlova Ves was erected on Bratislava's Main Square on Wednesday, where it will serve as the central Christmas tree. It will be decorated and lit up only when the city's Christmas markets open on November 25. The tree was cut down in Karlova Ves, since it no longer had room to grow and was pushing out the wall. A Christmas tree is delivered to the city centre always in advance, as later it would be impossible due to the gradual preparation of Christmas markets, the installation of kiosks and a stage. Traditional Christmas markets will return to Bratislava this year after a two-year pandemic break. The Christmas markets will take place on Main Square and Franciscan Square [which are adjacent to each other - ed. note] between November 25 and December 22. People will be able to enjoy Christmas drinks, food or buy presents there.
