Alpine areas in TANAP now seasonally closed

The high mountain environment in the Tatra National Park (TANAP) is closed for the winter season as of Tuesday. The TANAP Administration warns visitors to keep in mind when planning their hikes that several alpine hiking routes, including peaks and saddle crossings, are closed until June 14. "However, the paths to the alpine huts remain open, with the exception of the one leading to the Hut under Rysy summit," says the TANAP Administration. According to conservationists, the Tatra nature is most vulnerable during the seasonal closure. It is the time of chamois rutting, increased risk of endangering chamois by disturbance in exposed avalanche terrains, and marmots also bury themselves. The closure also includes the sensitive spring period of nesting and hatching of young animals of several protected species in the Tatra Mountains. (TASR)
