Government discussing draft budget for 2023-25

The Government on Friday started an extraordinary session to discuss the draft budget for 2023-25. The social partners discussed the budget for next year at a tripartite session on Wednesday. Following the meeting, Labour Minister Milan Krajniak reported that only the Slovak Towns and Villages Association was against the proposal, while neither employers nor unions raised any objections. According to the draft, the public-finance deficit should rise to 6.44 percent of GDP next year from the expected 5 percent this year. According to the Finance Ministry, the reason for the higher deficit is the Government's response to a significant increase in energy prices. The Government is making room for this in the budget to the tune of €3.5 billion.
