Spending on health care is expected reach €7.62 billion in 2023, according to the draft state budget approved by the Government on Friday. When compared to this year, the budget for the health-care system will increase by €1.24 billion, or 19.4 percent. The expenditures of the state-run public health insurance company, which is used to provide funding for health care, are expected to reach €6.74 billion, a sum amounting to 5.9 percent of GDP. Of this sum, the state will pay €1.10 billion for those insured by the state. According to the approved materials, with the budget the Finance Ministry is responding to the importance and shortage of medical staff. Next year, a sum of €394 million will be allocated for salary hikes for these employees.
