Driver who killed five students in custody

Bratislava Regional Court on Friday overturned a decision by Bratislava I District Court, which previously opted not to remand in custody the driver who killed five people at a bus stop while driving under the influence of alcohol on October 2. The appeal court thus upheld an appeal filed against the original ruling by the prosecutor in the case, albeit only partially. Bratislava Regional Court decided to remand the driver in custody due to concerns that he could continue to behave in a similar manner.

A car with a drunk driver crashed into a bus stop in the centre of Bratislava at 10.24 p.m. on October 2. The tragic accident left five people dead and several more injured. The driver who caused the tragic accident was found to have approximately 1.6 parts per thousand of alcohol in his blood, and his passenger one per thousand, informed Police Corps President Stefan Hamran.
