Heger: time for democratic forces to launch talks on preventing early elections

It's time for democratic forces to start talks on how to prevent an early election and guide Slovakia together through the worst energy crisis since WW2, Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OLaNO) claimed in his social network post on Tuesday. Heger was responding this way to the initiative by some opposition parties to launch negotiations on the snap election. "It's symbolic that it was today when Richard Sulik (SaS) received an invitation from Robert Fico (Smer-SD) to bilateral talks on an early election and a joint course of action against the incumbent government. I'll admit frankly that there can be nothing more repulsive for a democrat than the invitation from this individual to sit at one table. Let this date stand as a warning to us, democrats, of what might happen if we fail. The price to pay would be too big," said Heger.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the same month eleven years ago, the government of Iveta Radicova (2010-11) was toppled [when Richard Sulik's then-coalition SaS helped bring it down in a no-confidence motion linked with the vote on European bail-out that the SaS strongly opposed -ed.note]. According to Heger, the failure of the democratic forces would drag the country back into a "dark age". If Fico returned to power, law enforcement would once again be muzzled, Slovakia's geopolitical orientation put in jeopardy and corruption would rise again. (TASR)
