Minister of Foreign Affairs Rastislav Káčer held talks in Brussels

Foreign Minister Rastislav Káčer confirmed that Slovakia will continue to assist Ukraine, which is exposed to Russian aggression. At the same time, he supports its efforts to become a new member of the North Atlantic Alliance. He made the announcement after a working meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels. During his first official visit to Brussels as Foreign Minister, Rastislav Kacer also met with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell. According to Kacer, Slovakia agrees with the EU in the way of perceiving the war in Ukraine and in the need to continue helping the Ukrainian side. "Today we saw another escalation, missile strikes on Kiev, Lvov and other cities. It has been unacceptable since the beginning of the war, as attacking a neighbouring country and denying its right to exist, violating its borders and sovereignty and the entire system as it has been known since the end of World War II, is not only a question of Ukraine as such, but question for all of us. Slovakia cannot accept this," stated the Slovak minister. He also spoke with Borrell about unlawful referendums and annexations of parts of the Ukrainian territory that both of them view as unacceptable. Borrell and Kacer concurred on the need for a unified European approach in dealing with the consequences of the war in Ukraine and achieving European independence from Russian gas and oil. On behalf of Slovakia, Kacer expressed support for the idea of ensuring joint military training for Ukrainian soldiers in the EU.
