Bardejov honey receives protected designations of origin

The obtained designation is intended to make it easier for producers to expand to foreign markets and is a guarantee of quality for consumers. TASR was informed about this by the spokeswoman of the Industrial Property Office (ÚPV) of the Slovak Republic, Jana Záchenská. As she said, in cooperation with the ÚPV SR, Bardejov honey went through a complex registration process at the national level, and then the application for registration of the protected designation of origin was sent to the EC. "The commission approved the request, and since September 30, Bardejov honey belongs to the family of protected designations of origin and geographical indications, thanks to which, with its quality and specificity, it has been included among products such as Roquefort cheese and wines from the world-famous Bordeaux region," explained Záchenská. According to her, the geographical area from which Bardejov honey comes is characterized by solid stands of fir trees. A cooler and wetter climate helps the honeydew producer - the aphid. (TASR)
