The amount of €50 million will help to stabilise the critical situation in livestock production in Slovakia, Slovak Agriculture and Food Chamber (SPKK) spokesperson Jana Holeciova said on Monday. She was reacting to the announcement of the Minister of Agriculture Samuel Vlčan on the distribution of state aid to compensate for the consequences of this year's drought. According to Holeciova, the SPPK must unambiguously welcome that the Government and the Agriculture Ministry decided to pay out €50 million in compensation for this year's extreme drought. The largest agro-food organisation in Slovakia also positively evaluates the fact that additional aid amounting to €10 million was promised to the food industry and an additional €15 million will go to special plant production. "This is the highest-ever amount to be provided in compensation to farmers for the consequences of extreme weather - this time drought. From our viewpoint, it was livestock breeders who were most affected by the consequences of climate change this year. The approved money and the categories of animals we will support with it will help breeders to buy the missing fodder. We believe that this aid will help to at least stabilise livestock numbers in Slovakia, otherwise there would be a real threat of cessation of stock breeding farms in Slovakia," stated SPPK chairman Emil Macho.
