Slovak authorities condemn annexation of Ukrainian regions

President Zuzana Caputova condemns the steps taken by Russia. According to her, the Kremlin’s intention is not to establish peace but to continue war. “The efforts to change the borders of some states in the way that contradicts international law, are unacceptable. Referendums should mirror the free will of citizens, not the will of occupiers,” stated the President in reaction to the alleged referendums in the west Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. House Chair Boris Kollar condemned the Russian annexation of the four Ukrainian regions, stating that such an unprecedented action would put even Slovakia's territorial integrity into jeopardy if Slovakia were to recognize the annexation. "We would do well to realise this," said Kollar.
The Kremlin announced on Thursday that the four Ukrainian regions it occupies in Ukraine - Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions - would join the Russian Federation as of Friday. The regions have seen alleged referendums on joining Russia held since last Friday. Kiev and the West insist that these were illegitimate pseudo-referendums, hastily organised in response to the successful Ukrainian counteroffensive and they will not recognize their outcomes.
