The international Peace Marathon, the longest run event of its kind in Europe, will start over the upcoming weekend in Košice, eastern Slovakia. The stars to be seen in the main race on Sunday include two times winner Kenyan Reuben Kiprop Kerio who secured last year the third best result in the soon-centenary history of the event. Another star is Ayantu Kumela Tadesse from Ethiopia, the winner of the female category in Košice last year. Peace Marathon will also welcome the 2009 winner of the women’s category Olga Burkovska, a Ukrainian runner who became a refugee due to the situation in her home country. A lot of sports, cultural and social events on top of the mini, half and main marathon races start as of Friday and run through all of the first October weekend.
