The surroundings of the Memorial to the Victims of Extremism on Tyršovo nábreží in Bratislava was given a new look. Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová took part in Tuesday’s ceremony. The memorial commemorates the murder of student Daniel Tupé, and is part of the Living Places program. As explained by the Metropolitan Institute of Bratislava (MIB), a lawn with an area of almost 15,000 square meters was created, footpaths were improved, nine new trees were planted, and missing lighting and Bratislava benches were added. "I wish that this place, which will forever remind us of the sad tragedy of Daniel Tupé, will also be a place of remembrance and awareness of the preciousness of life and all the important values with which we should fill our lives," said the president at the opening. In her speech, she apologized to Daniel Tupé's parents for not being able to clarify the murder of their son. She wants the act to be investigated and the perpetrators punished.
