Tripartite meeting focuses mainly on energy prices

The focal point of the Economy and Social Council's (HSR) session on Monday was the energy crisis and energy prices, Labour Minister Milan Krajniak (We Are Family) said after a tripartite meeting between representatives of government, employers and employees on the same day. "As the government, we asked our social partners which form of addressing the energy prices they would prefer, whether the capping of energy prices or compensation. I'm pleased to say that we concurred practically unanimously that caps are the way to go. It's the preferred way. We'll embrace compensations only in case of some very specific segments of society - firms or public sector, in cases when it would be impossible to tackle the situation via the capping of prices," stated Krajniak. He also underlined that in a very short time the government will announce to Slovak households what prices of gas, electricity and heat they can expect in 2023. He said that as early as this year, the ministry will announce prices that the public sector will be able to afford. The same method will be applied to companies. “Out of this sum, about €200 million will be allocated to the inflation aid for seniors, €1.3 billion to the aid for the public sector and firms," added Krajniak.
