The Government on Wednesday greenlighted a proposal to increase the salaries of medical workers, which, apart from the announced hikes in the salaries of doctors and nurses, also address the salaries of other medical staff in both inpatient and outpatient facilities. In addition to increasing salary coefficients for these professions, years of experience should be also taken into account. The Health Ministry's proposal is a response to a shortage of health professionals, a decline in interest in studying individual medical fields, and the exodus of health professionals from both the system and Slovakia. At the same time, the proposal is meant to ward off announced mass resignations. Parliament is expected to deal with the legislation via fast-track proceedings. If ultimately passed, it should enter into force in January 2023.
