The response of the international community to the Russian occupation of parts of Georgia and Ukraine has been underwhelming, its determination weakened by concerns over its own comfort, and that weakness has encouraged Russia to mount an aggression, President Zuzana Caputova stated in her speech delivered at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday. Čaputová declared that Slovakia is a direct neighbor of Ukraine and the war also threatens its security, adding that the country nevertheless prioritized the protection of its fundamental values in imposing sanctions on Russia and supporting Ukraine through military aid. The president also commented on the climate crisis and its "victims" as a result of world leaders ignoring their obligations, and the crisis of the relativising of values and facts, which she described as an "epidemic of lies, propaganda and misinformation". She also supported the creation of the so-called digital Geneva Convention, stating that the same rules should apply both in the online and offline world.
