Schools get financial compensation for high energy prices

The Ministry of Finance has allocated 30 million euros for regional schools to cover their increased costs due to higher energy prices, at the request of the Education Ministry. Compensation for rising energy prices at the level of households, businesses and public administration will be addressed comprehensively by the Government. "Currently, we're waiting for the conclusion of talks with the European Commission, so that we'll be able to assess the overall scope of the problem and its subsequent impact on the public administration budget," said Finance Minister Igor Matovic. The ministry also recalled that in February it provided the Education Ministry with €40 million through a budget measure. This was in response to an increase in funding for operations and facilities, which hit energy prices back then in the regional education sector. On the same occasion the new economy minister, Karel Hirman, said that legislation to address the energy crisis would be adopted in Slovakia this week. He stressed that the plan is to maintain electricity production in the largest possible volume for the Slovak market at a reasonable and affordable price.
