77th Session of the UN General Assembly

Today begins the high-level general debate of the 77th UN General Assembly, which will last until 26 September. The Slovak delegation is led by the President of the Slovak Republic, Zuzana Čaputová. She flew to New York from London, where she represented Slovakia at the state funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Foreign Minister Rastislav Káčer has also arrived in New York, where he discussed the war in Ukraine with his ministerial colleagues from EU member states. He also presented the priorities of the Slovak Presidency at an informal meeting of the Visegrad Four (V4). "I confirmed the continuity of Slovak foreign policy in relation to the aggression against Ukraine and stressed the need to maintain European unity in the fight against the aggressor, as well as in the case of efforts to cope with the impact of this conflict in the food and energy sectors," Káčer said after the meeting. The informal meeting took place on the occasion of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. The main topic was Russia's aggression against Ukraine and its impact on global stability. The head of Slovak diplomacy initiated the first meeting of V4 foreign ministers in New York, the communication department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic stated. During his visit to New York, Káčer also met with the President of the World Economic Forum (WEF), Børge Brende, during which he confirmed his interest in creating a platform for dialogue on the internal dynamics and future of Visegrad cooperation. The head of Slovak diplomacy drew attention to the phenomenon of questioning the rules and principles of international law and peaceful coexistence, as enshrined in the UN Charter. He called for the preservation of strategic partnerships and the formation of coalitions based on shared responsibility. The meeting in New York was attended by 13 foreign ministers, as well as prominent representatives of the business and academic communities. On Monday morning, Minister Káčer also met with representatives of Jewish organizations in the US: the American Jewish Committee (AJC) and B'nai B'rith.
